0800    Coffee and Pastries

0830    Call the Meeting:  Marcia McNutt, UNOLS Chair, will call the meeting to order and provide an opportunity for introductions.

·         Accept the minutes of the July 2008 Council Meeting.

0845    Crew and Marine Technician Retention and Hiring Issues – Proposed strategies for addressing these issues will be presented (Stewart Lamerdin)

0915    Code of Conduct for Marine Scientific Research Vessels – The Impact of Research Vessels on the Environment and impact of regulations on the conduct of research.  ISOM Code of Conduct for Marine Scientific Research Vessels – status (Federal Agency Representatives)

0945    Conditions in which Outside Funding for Ship Use could be Sought and Scheduled – The conditions should include policies regarding data collection and archiving, insurance, cruise participation, and cruise results.  (Mike Prince)

1100    2008/2009 UNOLS Goals and PrioritiesThe draft 2008/2009 UNOLS Goals and Priorities will be reviewed for endorsement by the UNOLS Council. (Marcia McNutt)

1130    Status Reports:

·         RVOC Safety Standards (Peter Zerr)

·         Safety Standards for Human Occupied Vehicles (Annette DeSilva)

·         SMR Update Project – The project description is available at: <http://www.unols.org/committees/fic/smr/update08/index.html> (Mike Prince)

·         Harassment at Sea – Poll UNOLS Representatives to determine which institutions have harassment training programs and how many need it.  Based on demand, a voluntary on-line training program could be developed. (Mike Prince)

·         Announce the Recommendation for the next UNOLS Office Host Institution (Marcia McNutt)

1145    Committee Activities and Issues requiring Council Attention - Committee Chairs and Council Members will have an opportunity to raise any issues requiring Council attention.
