AT-36 and the Future of Telepresence!

In the summer of 2016, the Deep Submergence Chief Scientist Training Cruise took early career scientists out on the R/V Atlantis to explore deep sea features using Alvin and JASON. During this cruise, telepresence technology was used for both scientific and outreach purposes. Some of the cruise participants have recently published a piece in the opinion section of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States, discussing the role of telepresence technologies and their use to expand access and knowledge to the studies of natural systems in the field.
