RV Langseth Future Operations

The National Science Foundation (NSF) Division of Ocean Sciences (OCE) in the Directorate of Geosciences (GEO) has been informed that Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, Columbia University, is considering plans to extend operations of Research Vessel Marcus G. NSF will accept proposals to use R/V Langseth in calendar years 2025-2026 as follows:
2025: Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico, and eastern Pacific
2026: Eastern Pacific, western Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean

Per the general guidance for requesting ship time on Global-class ships, Principal Investigators should submit proposals at least 18 months prior to the requested start date of the cruise. Final schedules will be determined collaboratively between the PIs, operators, UNOLS, environmental compliance authorities, and NSF.

Ship schedules depend on many factors, and the pandemic has caused delays and rescheduling throughout the U.S. Academic Research Fleet (ARF).  The schedule may shift if there are unanticipated problems.
